Ad oggi è l’unico italiano ad apparire, nella IUSA record list, con la cattura di un European Seabass (la nostra spigola, ndr) di 24 libbre (10,9 Kg), catturata il 24 settembre 2020: stiamo parlando di Massimo Cecchetti, noto e bravo pescasub di Rimini.
Massimo è riuscito ad inserirsi nella Hall of Fame della International Underwater Spearfishing Association (IUSA) che dal 1950, insieme alla ESRA (European Spearfishing Record Association) – che ne è la controparte europea, registra i record di cattura nelle 2 categorie Speargun e Sling (entrambe sia maschili che femminili).
Per completezza va detto che Massimo condivide la presenza nei registri IUSA con un nome illustre della nostra storia agonistica nazionale, Donato Gerbino , che si trova nell’elenco a parte dei “meritorious” con la cattura, nel 1964, di un pesca spada (Xiphias gladius) del peso di 99,5 Kg. Ma ribadiamo si tratta di un elenco separato e non quello dei record ufficiali.
A seguire il racconto della cattura estrapolato dal sito ufficiale dei Records:
“My fishing friends Paolo and Sergio and I decide to go out to sea after days of rough sea, checked the weather forecast, we decide where to dive. We travel about 10 km off the coast and dive. The water is dirty with strong current of cold water, visibility 2m. We decide to move further out in the hope of finding less current and cleaner water. Sergio and I are in the water, Paolo follows us with the boat. It’s my turn to go down to a depth of about 20m, veiled water and a temperature of 21 ° C. I try a look on the bottom, suddenly and from the fog I see a big shape, I shoot the fast shape, I hit the fish and I try to recover it immediately. It is not possible, the fish makes a great resistance, I detach the fish from the bottom and loosen the reel keeping the line taut. I reach the surface and within seconds I hold a huge fish that I had underestimated in a tight embrace. I show the fish to Paolo and Sergio who had followed my dive, a shout of joy from everyone marks the end of the fishing day. A new disturbance is coming, the waves begin to rise and we sail home happy and satisfied with the beautiful gift received from the sea.”
